SECURITY CASE STUDIES

Web Single Sign-on Business Case and Software Selection
ICA worked with a regional health board to define their use of and select appropriate software for web single sign-on. The customer was moving applications delivery to a 'thin client' model using web browsers as the primary client. In addition they wish to provide IT services to the wider community involved with healthcare.

The project involved:

• Documentation of the business and technical requirements for the provision of authentication, authorisation and associated management processes.
• Development of a business case identifying the savings in on-going administration that can be expected from implementation of the system.
• Review of offerings and costs from major vendors in this area - Oblix, Netegrity, Baltimore, Tivoli, CA, RSA and Novell.
• Development of a project plan with associated costs for implementation of the system.

Security Architecture Review for National Electricity Supplier
ICA developed an integrated security architecture and plan for a national electricity supplier. The architecture included authentication and access control, common user management, network security, security organisation and roles and management and audit functions.

The architecture was developed to support existing and future web based applications and allows this organisation to provide services to a range of partner organisations, employees and contractors. A plan for implementing this architecture over a two year timeframe was developed.

A key requirement was to support and enable the deployment of new web based applications and to do this a range of common services was specified to allow application developers to develop applications without needing to develop specific authentication and access control components.
