DIRECTORIES CASE STUDIES

Unified User Management for Telecommunications Equipment Manufacturer ICA developed a unified user management design for this Asian telecommunications equipment manufacturer. The objective of the project was to simplify user administration across multiple systems as a pre-requisite to more advanced security functions such as single sign-on.The design involved synchronisation and integration of user information for Lotus Domino, iPlanet messaging, proxy and web server, Oracle ERP, SAP HR, ATG Dynamo and Active Directory as well as for custom developed web applications using Microsoft's IIS and IBM's WebSphere.

The project involved:
• Design of the directory schema, information tree and physical distribution and replication processes
• Development of a proof of concept demonstrating integration between Lotus Domino and iPlanet directory server
• Development of a phased implementation plan for the directory and its integration with other data sources

National Government Defence Head Quarters Joint Command and Control Group
Awarded a contract and led and managed a multidisciplinary team of consultancy staff reviewing the HQ of a National Defence Force requirements for a meta-directory services based application architecture to provide for secure authentication, role based single sign on to applications, directory enabled networking, directory enabled services e.g. fax and various corporate services automation applications.

National Defence Force - eDefence
Consultants have been working within a consortium led by Computer Sciences Corporation to provide a comprehensive Secure Messaging and Directories environment for a Defence wide Restricted and Secret networks. We have undertaken extensive Directories and Meta-Directory design strategy consulting for the tender response and subsequent winning bid and some of our Consultants are now involved in the detailed design and deployment of a Defence wide Directories and Meta-Directory solution covering some 90,000 desktops.

National Defence Force - Meta Directory Consultancy
Undertook a detailed review of Meta connect requirements of a Regional Defence Forces - Defence Communication Group, Secret and Restricted Directory environments and implemented and mapped authoritative data attributes from a variety of Defence related sources into the Defence X.500/LDAP Secret and restricted Directory Services.

This project now synchronises and automatically updates some 75,000 telephone numbers, 45,000 email addresses and 15,000 functional HR unit information sources including all modifications changes, adds and deletes into the Defence Directory service network, twice a day.

State Government - X.500 Directory Service
Acted as project consultants for the provision of an X.500 directory for the whole-of-government directory for integration of cross-department directory services. This involved working with the State Government representative to determine system requirements and the provision of services to implement the directory initially in four areas:
• mail service integration involving the provision of a mail transport agent integrating with the directory
• provision of a DAP interface for the whole of government telephone call centre
• provision of a directory browser interface for GovNet clients to access the directory
• specification and implementation assistance in the provision of a secure e-mail pilot utilising a full public key infrastructure
• installation based on X.509 certificates.

State Government - Government wide review of e-Directory Requirements
Awarded a contract for a complete review of a State & Territory Government Directory Service requirements as a basis for e-Government initiatives.

The Government has a policy of outsourcing of key IT&T functions and has outsourced a whole of Government Messaging network based on Lotus Notes, Desktop applications based on Lotus Domino applications, Telecommunications services, and Desktop support. They now require a whole of Government Directory service as a key part of their eGovernment infrastructure to deliver single sign on, support billing, and a single authoritative source of commonly shared data on persons, buildings and contacts.

We were engaged to undertake the consultancy activities around this delivery. This project will deliver Government White, Yellow, Blue and Green pages.

A Major Australian University Meta-Directory Infrastructure
A major Australian University awarded a contract to us to review the Universities' existing 6 campuses directory and PKI requirements for such activities as secure messaging, authenticated access control and corporate service automation.

This project encompassed:
