BUSINESS INTELLIGENCE CHALLENGES

There is a great danger in the development of a business intelligence (BI) solution within an organisation that only data deemed to be important by upper management will be included. This results from the immediacy of requirements that result when managers are operating in "fire-fighting" mode and need to address the topic of interest at the time.

ICA will ensure that the BI environment to be deployed is comprehensive. This will be achieved via the selection of a framework to guide the design of the BI environment. This is typically a collaborative activity using an known methodology. As an indication of how this might evolve the balanced scorecard approach has proved useful. This methodology suggests a "balanced" view of an organisation's operation can be measured via four factors:
    Financial
     Customer
     Growth
     Business Process

By following a framework that properly analyses the BI requirement development of a one-sided dashboard that accommodates only the known data of importance, will be avoided.
